I literally had to force myself to read the last 90% of this book. This book is tedious, juvenile, and redundant.I felt like I was reading a book written by a fourth grader. I understand this is a YA novel but it is not even a passable one.
Girl loves\hates annoying handsome jock. Every third page is about them almost but not kissing. His name "Ash Mathews" is on every single page at least twice. This immature attempt at building tension just makes the book long, uninteresting, and redundant. Save your money.

I absolutely loved, loved, LOVED, The Awakend. To many authors write Post-apocalyptic Zombie books where the story starts anywhere from 10 yrs - 100 yrs after. Thankfully, this is not the case with Author Sara Elizabeth Santana! We get to see what the characters normal lives were like before the Awakened took over. That right there, get my blood pumping! I love seeing how it all unfolds and Sara Elizabeth Santana, did it beautifully.
I recommend this epic Zombie Adventure to all you who can appreciate a good Zombie Romance!

I really enjoyed read Ash and Zoey's story. Both Ash and Zoey are seniors in a academy. Everyone starts getting sick, and of course bring on the zombie Apocalypse or in this case the Awakened. Zoey and Ash are fleeing New York with her father to Nebraska.
Oh, I forgot to mention, the only way to turn into a zombie is bye sickness. If the Awakened bite a person they do not turn into a zombie or come back to life as a zombie. They just have a lot of pain or die.
Is is where the spoiler alerts come in so be warned if you do not want to know them. Whatever you do, do stop reading the book when it looks as f Ash may die. He doesn't. I also made the mistake of deleting this book at that point.
Also what is up with the crazy doctor? Umm.. yea trying to take over the world by killing the weak because you're son was killed for being gay? Do what normal people do and grieve. B, then again thus story has to have some evil in it if there are zombies around.
So if you like to read zombie books or even zombie romance, then I highly recommend is book. I can't wait to read the next one.
I enjoyed this book for what it was (A tense dystopian novel The Z virus destroys the population) and tried not to be too critical since it was from the "teen and young adult" section on Bookbub and I am a good 35 years past "young adult". I did enjoy it and read through it rather quickly looking past a few story holes that made me wonder. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the book and had a hard time putting it down, I did want to see what happened to Zoey, just a few sections made me say WTF, why did that happen like that or what were they thinking..........I am sure a teen or young adult would enjoy this book very much and I would read a sequel if it is published.
I really took my time reading this book because it was just too good! It was seriously amazing with all the action-packed that you just don't ever want to stop reading the book.
Usually, a story with a major part of zombies in it, it usually starts off when the zombie invasion has already occured and the story will tell you a background of how it happened.
But not this one. Not this story.
It started off like a normal story of the main character, Zoey Valentine just going through her teenage life with absolutely no hint of zombies in it. The writer, Sara Elizabeth Santana has done a remarkable work on the book and has written the story in intricate detail - every step of the way - on how the zombie invasion started. How the invasion progresses from the beginning and till the end. It's a real breath of fresh air seeing a different kind of a zombie story. In a good way, of course.
What intrigues me the most is that, most of the zombies that are depicted in movies are that they all usually move frustratingly slow. Well, in the case of The Awakened, they're fast and they can manipulate you of thinking that they're as normal as a person can be.
I can't say who I'm rooting Zoey with. I'm cool with either guy. Ash is a really caring guy while Liam, I can't say much about him. We don't really have that much information about him to actually judge him based on our predicaments.
